so i have a confession to make. i never really like to put too much serious stuff here, but i had such a cool experience at work this morning. if you don't know what i mean by work, let me fill you in. i work maintenance at moore's mill golf course. so when i say i've been at work, on wednesdays and fridays, that means from 6am to 9am. some of you probably threw up in your mouth when you heard that because let's be honest, it's college, we stay up late and don't get much sleep as it is, why should i get up at 5:30 in the morning to go mow tees at a golf course. well, to give you the real answer my life is not my own. what i mean when i say that is that i have a Heavenly Father that tweaked my heart to be extremely moved by nature, (mountains, cloudless skies, cold weather and sunrises particularly) to the point where getting up early is worth it and when i'm there it completely shuts down other thoughts and makes them obedient to the call the Father has placed in those things. i'm trying not to be overly dramatic, but those of you who really know me just know that it's just how i am...i am really moved also by seeing my breath and the stars at the same time, a good windy, sunny day and just being in the mountains period. it gets to the point where i get...well..giddy to be honest. now am i proud that i have to use the word giddy to describe myself in those situations? of course not! but am i proud that my father loves and pursues me to the point where His changing the weather makes me giddy? yeah. i am. so i say that to say this: know that at 5 till 6 it's just the beginning of sunrise and not really much lighter than dark. if i'm doing a job by myself, like mowing, i'll slide my ipod in my pocket, slide to the option "shuffle songs" and click. for those of you who aren't down with the shuffle, you need to know that it just plays random songs...but it seems like they're not really random. a lot of times, i'll just be praying for the morning, to wake up, to enjoy the weather, to pay attention to what i'm doing so i don't f things up for the golfers, for my family, elizabeth, my friends, you know, whatever the Lord puts on my heart. well this morning, i'm shufflin along mowing tees, and i get to the 12th tee box and i'm looking over my left shoulder at the treeline and i know people always say this stuff, and it kinda sounds cheesy, but it looked as if the sunrise had just been one hand of red paint, one hand of orange paint smeared into the sky. it was the most vivid sunrise that i've noticed in a while, it really almost took my breath away, and i'm not really the kind of guy to say that something took my breath away. so as i'm watching the sunrise, i just sat and turned off the mower (justin, if you're reading this, don't tell scott) and looked, and the song "fix you" by coldplay came on. so as i'm listening to the song, the lyrics are more clear to me than they've ever been before:
"when the tears come streaming down your face,
when you lose some thing that you can't replace
when you love someone and it goes to waste, could it be worse?"
at this point in the song, i'm talkin back to chris martin and saying...no...that's pretty much a sucky situation, it couldn't be worse. but then, the chorus grabs my attention and twists the meaning in with the sunrise and the timing of it all...
"lights will guide you home,
and ignite your bones"
if the Lord had audibly said this right into my ear, it couldn't have been clearer...the heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. (psalm 19:1). and there it was, the song, the scripture and the sunrise blended into a perfect whisper to remind me i'm loved, to remind me He paid the highest price for a reason, to remind me there's a calling on my life that His kingdom needs. the scripture explained what the song was speaking to me. when things just make you feel alone, look for the lights in the sunrise, in community (hello, we're called to let our light shine for what reason?), a sunset or maybe a perfect blue sky to guide you back where you belong, in the Father's heart. the word says that our God is a consuming fire and when He calls us back to His heart (our home) it's usually to burn away the lies that have been creeping in. so my encouragement is to rest in the fact that amidst all this talk these days of seeking God out where He is and always moving forward this and that, the heavens still declare the glory of God and He is still the best at pursuing His bride's heart.

hahahahaha!

so every monday, wednesday and friday, i have one class. it's spanish II and i just get up, go and come back. it's not the best use of my time in my opinion, but i guess i'm here to do such things, so i'd better at least go. anyways, almost every day, i just ride my bike to and from class...as fast as i can. no joke, i probably look like "that guy", but it's an easy way to get a little workout here and there on my legs. ok, but anyways, on friday, i left my bike on campus to make things easier on yetty (we met up at Foy and decided to walk downtown to get some food...didn't want to be like "hey, see ya there" and race off on the bike and wait for 10 minutes...anyways) since i didn't have my bike today, i left like 20 minutes early and just walked. the way over there aj and i walked and talked about life and the fact that it's easily 10 degrees colder in our house than it is outside. went to class, it was fine. here's where the story gets good: as i'm walking back to the MPC, i'm walking behind a cowboy kinda guy, you know, dark colored wranglers, snap down (as opposed to a button down) shirt and the hat...and boots. that's fine, i understand that there's a lot of those guys around here, but the only thing i ask is that if you're going to wear that stuff, please be a real redneck and be proud of it or be a real cowboy, but don't dress like that one day, then sport trendy abercrombie stuff the next, like a dude i had in a class of mine a year ago...anyways, sorry, i keep getting distracted. so as i'm walkin behind this guy he seems to be the poser cowboy guy and is puttin on the country accent thick as he's sayin' hey to somebody, then his mom calls and the accent is mild...almost florida-ish (i thought floridians didn't have an accent? exactly.) so i'm kinda laughin at this guy as we're walkin, and i'm starting to enjoy the scene because anyone who has an 11:00 at Haley, this guy knows. he's sayin hey and even howdy every once in a while and really doin it up big. well then, as we're passing cater hall (the top of the upper quad, the white house) as he sees a lady friend of his, he does like a little half skip over to see her and is yellin "well hay theare sweetcheeks, i hadn't seen yew in furevur!" and as the boots hit the brick on his way back down from the little skip, out blurts a noticeably loud fart. the girl's mouth drops wide open in a smile-gasp as he proceeds to turn back toward me and say 'gahlee, did yew hear that fella?' oh no he didn't! oh yes he did, he blamed the fart on me. of course i dropped my notebook so i could hear what was going on and she said hushed "who?" and he said "that feller in the gray shirt" what happened next was priceless. "jimmy ( i couldn't actually hear his name, but we'll guess jimmy), i know that was you, i saw do it!" YES! haha, justice is mine. that was hilarious, i couldn't help it, as i looked back, just to make sure that's what i actually heard, ole jimmy is lookin me right in the face and i couldn't help it, i just laughed my head off at him. it was great. hope you enjoyed that story...

the start of something hot

last night, after a dominating performance from the mega bad megatrons (the intramural volleyball team of the year) aj made the biggest pick up of the year for our house. a 55 gallon barrel for fires in the front yard. last night, we loaded the barrel up with random wood things from around the house, squirted a buttload of lighter fluid in, and bam...a new tradition had begun. for an hour or so, we just sat around the fire and took in the sounds of a late night black church worship session across the street (their drummer was a wild man). it was unbelievable, 4 guys (until fritz decided he needed to go to sleep) sitting around the fire on a cool night just munching on a brand x pizza. everyone who drove by was jealous. believe it. more to come soon...

the weekend in the wild

alan moise: always willing to lend a helping hand. also always willing to drive unnecessarily fast around sharp curves...thank the Lord for BF Goodrich all-terrain tires!
alan handled the responsibilities of making sure no one died this weekend while climbing or rappelling...well done, alan. no deaths. well done.

mark fritz: mark was only able to come up for friday afternoon/evening. he had a trip to go on with the fisheries department that was leaving at 6am saturday morning, but because he is so hardcore, mark rode the yamahawg all the way up to cheaha, helped set up the ropes, climbed, rappelled and did some belaying too. this is a picture of mark belaying while i was climbing. good thing he's not paying a bit of attention to me climbing. look up, mark, look up!

ben bonner: ben had never taken a trip with us to cheaha before, so he didn't really know what to expect. he fit in great, though, and it was as if he'd taken all the trips with us before. except he hadn't. but it seemed like he had. that's just how ben rolls.

aj hammond: everybody knows aj's the iron horse, but not everybody knows that aj can climb like a billy goat. in fact no one knew that until friday night when aj clipped in and dominated the wall on his first try. he and ben were the first guys to ever get that route on the first try. in the words of kip dynamite: "that's what i'm talkin about."

david quintero: david and i have been best friends since we met at a boy scout cpr certification in 6th grade (did i really just admit that?). i guess the embarassment of the career in boy scouts and the nearly 10 years of being my best friend had finally pushed him over the edge...here he is about to jump off the cliff. sike, he's just watching me finish my rappel. david got done with his fall semi-formal and got back into athens at 2am his time friday night, changed clothes, jumped in the car and drove all the way to cheaha to spend the weekend with us. he didn't get into camp until 4am our time saturday morning. don't worry, he caught up on his sleep in applebee's saturday during the notre dame - usc game.
it was an awesome weekend with perfect weather. we had some great time together talkin about the Lord, 'dreams' and life...it was much too short, but mostly because moise drives like a maniac on those back roads...

so here's the deal. for some reason, (i'm still at a loss for why) i was blessed with an awesome family, an incredible girlfriend and the coolest, most loyal friends of all time. here's how cool my girlfriend (yes, elizabeth wilkey...THE elizabeth wilkey) is. she and rachel williams just decided today to come visit. they both have to be back in atlanta in the morning, but they didn't care. they came and it was so great. i love her. i love rachel too, just in a different way! i decided to put pictures of all these people on the ole blog tonight for all to see. enjoy!
